90s kids unite: in trying times like these (so-called "adulthood"), one way to cope is a healthy portion of nostalgia. Thankfully, Disney+ seems to share that sentiment and brings back a cult classic: X-Men!

Not only Marvel fans should give the old X-Men: The Animated Series a go, it's an amizingly faithful adaptation of the comic books as well. The old series is one of those cartoon shows that had really complex character development, even though it was a kids show. Disney continues right where the original show left off 25 years ago with X-Men '97, coming soon to Disney+.

X-Men '97 | Release Date & Second Season

Fans won't have to wait that much longer: X-Men '97 releases on Disney+ on March 20. The reboot debuts with two episodes, followed by a new episode each Wednesday – the finale of the first season will be on May 15, then.

And yeah, you've read that right: the first season. Season 2 has already been greenlit and is in development:

If patience is not your strong suit, you can get into the right mood for the upcoming show by rewatching the original on Disney+ or right here.

Who is the cast to start recording season 2, you may ask? Mainly the original cast from the 90s to the fans' delight. The returning cast includes Lenore Zann, Cal Dodd, George Buza, Chris Potter, Catherine Disher, Adrian Hough, Alyson Court and Christopher Britton.

Lenore Zann, for example, will be voicing Rogue again and Cal Dodd will reprise his role as Wolverine, while other original cast members like Chris Potter or Catherine Disher (Gambit and Phoenix in the original) will take on new roles.

X-Men '97 | Trailer & Plot

As X-Men '97 will directly continue the old animated series' story, which ended after five seasons (here's the last season at your leisure or directly at Disney+) with the X-Men ready to face more challenges after defeating Apocalypse. But there's always going to be more bad guys and the need for even more heroics.

The official synopsis reads:

Storm and Wolverine try to continue the X-Men. Magneto comes in and wants to step up for Charles Xavier. Sinister comes in to try to end the X-Men once and for all.

So make sure to keep an eye out for X-Men '97 in 2024 to see Sinister get his evil plans foiled yet again and get that sweet nostalgia kick!
