MSI 2024: Event Will Be Returning To China

The 2024 League of Legends pro season is going to be kicking off soon. Where could MSI 2024 take place though? It seems like it's going to be coming back to China in 2024.

It looks like Riot is going to be returning to China. The dates for MSI 2024 have been revealed, as well as the location of the huge international esports event. Last year, the event took place in London and Riot was so enamored with the city that they've decided to move the Worlds Finals to the O2 Arena in 2024.

Riot have released an official blog post in which they outlined the dates for their two big international events. The first event of the year is MSI and it's going to be taking place in China for the first time in forever.

It's been years since China has hosted an esports event from Riot Games. The last time China hosted the Mid-Season Invitational was back in 2016 and their last World Championship was in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was a 'bubble' tournament without any crowds to cheer on their favorite players.

There have been rumors about the event coming back to China, with Korean news outlet news1, revealing the information back in October, but it's now official and Chengdu will be the host city for MSI 2024.

It also seems like Riot is more willing to try out new places with MSI, with the tournament having taken place in Vietnam and Taiwan before, as well as in Brazil. So it could be cool to have it hosted in a completely different country as well. In 2023, Japan hosted the VAORANT Masters Tokyo which was a huge success, so a LoL tournament in Japan also sounds like something we could see in the future – maybe 2025?

China finally receiving an international tournament again after such a long time is great though, specially with how passionate the fans there are for the sport. With the format improvements from 2023, MSI is looking to be a banger in 2024 as well.
