LoL: SkinSpotlights Unable To Continue Due To Vanguard – Community Furious With Riot

SkinSpotlights has been an integral part of the League of Legends community for years now thanks to his videos, but with Vanguard set to be added to League of Legends this could mean the end for his channel and the community is outraged.

League of Legends is going to be getting the Vanguard anti-cheat to stop boters and sripters from ruining your LoL games. While this is good news, it could also mean the end of an era for one of the most well-known and beloved content creators in the League community.

This has the community up in arms, hoping that Riot would help somehow and make sure that SkinSpotlights can continue to make videos for the entire community.

LoL: Vanguard Will Hinder New Skin Spotlight Videos

Due to this being a Kernel anti-cheat second-party hardware and software is immediately detected and seen as a threat to the game, meaning that many of the systems used to make skin videos by SkinSpotlights could be treated as malware.

On January 11, the content creator revealed that it has been pretty difficult to get motivated for future videos because he knows that in the future there won't be much for him to do anymore, due to these restrictions of the anti-cheat system.

Starting with 14.4 I'm going to be scaling back what I do and cover. With the extra time I don't know currently what I'll do. Coverage will be slow, scuffed and some style of videos will be impossible for me to produce going forward. If I decide to move on I still plan to do WR.

He also revealed that he had multiple projects planned for 2024, but the reveal of Vanguard coming to League has put a damper on all the plans.

The community has banded together to call out Riot to try and get them to make some adjustments to the anti-cheat software to whitelist certain people or certain software so he can continue to make videos for the community.

Many have also stated that had the SkinSpotlights videos not existed then they might not have even gone out and bought specific skins in the game, since Riot has never truly had any proper "skin spotlight" videos.

Riot's Response To Community Backlash

Riot Pupulasers has also spoken out on Reddit regarding this and said that Riot is currently working with SkinSpotlights to try and find a way around Vanguard so he can continue to work.

It is certainly something [Riot] care[s] about and has been discussed at the highest levels of League tech and general leadership teams. It might be the case that we cannot fully remove the impact of Vanguard, we are still digging into it.

Judging by the way SkinSpotlights has sounded on Twitter/X though, it does feel a bit hopeless and the community also felt that Riot's response to the issue was not enough.

Hopefully something can be done, since SkinSpotlights has been a key member of the community who has even, indirectly, helped Riot's profits.
