A Live Action Naruto Movie Is In The Works

Naruto is going to be joining the long list of live action adaptations. But the community does not need this.

Naruto is one of the most popular anime of all time. It's the show many remember their childhood by. So, what does the series need? Not a reboot, or anything, no... a live action adaptation. Of course.

It seems that the live action adaptation has been in the works since 2015, with some pretty big names attached to the project and even Naruto creator, Masashi Kishimoto, being a part of the development process. Honestly, it can't get worse than the 2009 Dragon Ball Evolution film, right? So let's be hopeful.

The recent One Piece live action adaptation was well-received by critics and the public. Avatar: The Last Airbender also had its live action show just released on Netflix, with decent reviews. So, now another childhood show is going to be turned into a live action movie, and this time it's Naruto.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed and co-wrote Shang-Chi, has been added to the project as the director. This is a sure sign that the project is ramping up and getting ready to hit the big screen soon.

It seems that Cretton has even et and talked with Kishimoto and gotten his blessing. The manga artist even stated that he thinks that "[Cretton's] forte is in creating solid dramas about people" alongside his sense for action scenes, which makes him the perfect candidate to direct a Naruto film.

The community is not convinced though, with many on Twitter writing that this is not something the fandom needs, nor wants. Others also believe that the live action could just ruin the source material.

With so much skepticism about this project, it'll be interesting to see how the film will turn out. But it will likely still be a long time until we see the final product.
