New Soulslike Doesn't Want To Compete With Elden Ring DLC, Postpones Release Date

Elden Ring is to the indie soulslike Enotria what Malenia is to Elden Ring players. That's why the indie studio that made Enotria have been forced to make a difficult decision.

This year seems to be a good one for all soulslike fans. The long-awaited Elden Ring DLC has finally been announced for June 21, and with Enotria: The Last Song, a completely new indie soulslike is also on the horizon. However, the initial choice of release date for the latter was not so fortunate, as it coincided with June 21 as well.

"Release On The Same Day As Elden Ring Would Be Suicidal" – Enotria Is Getting Postponed

Just three days before the Elden Ring DLC trailer dropped, the Italian soulslike was announced for June 21. When Shadow of the Erdtree was revealed to have the same release date, the indie developers at Jyamma Games must have been scratching their heads. Their title will likely not be able to compete with this world-class hit. A few days later, the CEO of the studio addressed the issue on Discord and announced a delay for Enotria.

I wanted to thank all the gamers and content creators who supported us during the launch of our latest trailer. We are perfectly aware that release on the same day as Elden Ring for us, as for any other game, would be suicidal. For this reason, we were ready immediately to be able to take different paths and possibly postpone the game.

On March 21, Enotria: The Last Song will be featured at the Future Game Show, revealing a gameplay trailer. This opportunity will also be used to unveil the new release date.

Having so much bad luck with the choice of release dates is quite something, and the decision to release the game at a different time than originally planned is completely understandable. This should also be preferable for soulslike fans, as they won't have to decide which game to play first, although most players would likely benefit the FromSoft game.

If you haven't heard of Enotria yet, let us give you a brief overview of the game.

This Is Enotria: The Last Song

The trailer adopts a typical FromSoft storytelling approach, featuring cryptic messages and referring to players as the 'Maskless One.' Inspired by Italian folklore, the game immerses players in a sunny world full of mysteries, a departure from the darker tone of most FromSoft soulslikes. As for the story, it is described as follows:

The world has been gripped by the Canovaccio - a twisted eternal play that keeps everything in an unnatural stasis. You, Maskless One, are the only one without a given role and master of your destiny. Defeat the fearsome Authors that created it and free the world from stagnation, by harnessing the power of Ardore. Become the Mask of Change.

The masks of defeated enemies play a special role here. Similar to Mario's hats (I don't know why I had to think of him), each of them possesses individual power and thus a unique play style, players can take on.

The initial impression of the game is definitely positive and somewhat reminiscent of the spin from Lies of P, which also captivated many soulslike fans. We hope that despite the unfortunate choice of release date, Enotria can have a great launch!
