Wednesday took Netflix by storm, and for good reason. Unblinking and still weirdly lovable, Jenna Ortega absolutely nailed it as Wednesday Addams – and will do so again in the upcoming season 2. Wednesday has been a smashing hit for Netflix and introduced millions of people to the new iteration of the iconic Addams Family. With how successful the show turned out, fans are eagerly awaiting Wednesday season 2, so here is everything we know regarding the potential release date, cast, plot and more.

Just in case you need a little recap, when Wednesday Addams enrolls at Nevermore Academy, she finds herself wrapped up in a series of murders. Across eight episodes, she forms new friendships and uncovers a haunting family secret from 25 years prior.

With the franchise's dark and morbid humor, paired with a stellar performance by lead actress Jenna Ortega and her co-stars, Netflix's Wednesday took the internet by storm. Remember when everybody was doing the dance? Because I sure do. So let's take a look at what's new in the Wednesday world!

Wednesday Season 2: Release Date Expectation

Although Wednesday likes to torture people, Netflix didn't want people to suffer. It didn't take long for Wednesday to officially be renewed for a second season.

Filming is set to start in April 2024. If that's true, we can make an educated guess as to when you should expect Wednesday season 2 to hit Netflix.

Considering that it took the show almost 15 months after filming started for the first season to finally release, this would mean that we can expect Wednesday season 2 to come out in the middle of 2025. Ouch!

Regarding the second season, we also know that they had to relocate shooting from Romania to Ireland, which was probably due to logistical challenges. How that might impact the show remains up for debate, but maybe we won't even notice at all.

Wednesday Season 2: Cast Update Shows We Will Miss Major Character

When it comes to the cast of the next season of Wednesday, we already know that Jenna Ortega will return as the titular character! Her performance was iconic that Netflix were obviously going to do everything they could to bring her back.

Catherine Zeta Jones has also confirmed her return as Wednesday's mother, Morticia Addams, and might finally get a little more screen time. We would really love to see the mother-daughter-dynamic play out a little more in season 2.

Besides those two, we expect the following cast members to make their return:

  • Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair
  • Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay
  • George Farmer as Ajax Pertropolus
  • Naomi J. Ogawa as Yoko Tanaka
  • Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin
  • Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams
  • Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams
  • Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester

One name you might miss on this list is Percy Hynes White as one of Wednesday's potential love interests, Xavier Thorpe. The thing is, Percy was accused of sexual assault, and so he's been written out of the show for season 2. Although the allegations have neither been proven, nor debunked, it looks like the showrunners simply didn't want to associate with the actor any longer. Definitely the safest decision.

What Can We Expect From Wednesday Season 2?

Regarding the direction for season 2, in an Actors on Actors video produced by Variety, Jenna Ortega revealed their plans to focus on the horror elements of the show and “ditch any romantic love interest for Wednesday”.

We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more. Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.

The focus of the show is going to stay on Wednesday, though other characters from her special family will make appearances on the show. Especially, her relationship with her mother Morticia is described by creator Miles Millar as essential to the show.

These changes are probably more than welcome by a large part of the fan base, and they are also going to have to address the cliffhanger that ended the first season. Like, who is the mysterious individual that is stalking Wednesday and what does he want? There's lots of mysteries to unravel, that's for sure.

As soon as there's more to report, you can bet you'll hear it from us!
