So far, it has been assumed that the Switch 2, the successor to the Nintendo Switch, would release in late 2024. This was based on several insider reports and rumors.

However, that might have changed now. New reports strongly suggest that the release of the console has been pushed back to 2025.

Switch 2 Could Come Later Than Expected

In a new video by Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, it is claimed that five different sources told him the Switch 2 would come in Q1 2025. These sources are allegedly working on games that are supposed to launch alongside the new console.

VGC reported on this and also consulted their own sources in the report, corroborating that the Switch 2 is now planned for March 2025, but it could also be pushed back further. According to these sources, "companies were recently briefed on an internal delay in Nintendo's next-gen launch timing, from late 2024 to early the following year."

This reporting has been corroborated by Japanese outlet Nikkei, which reveals possible reasons for the internal delay. According to their reporting (via VGC), Nintendo wants to wait to "ensure the initial inventory of the successor console and a lineup of software titles at the time of its launch".

It looks like Nintendo wants to make doubly sure that the Switch will have a good launch line-up and that there won't be any issues getting enough consoles to consumers. The Switch successor is expected to be extremely popular and will very likely have a high demand upon release.

Previously, rumor had it that Nintendo’s new console would launch in September 2024. While fans are waiting on an upcoming Nintendo Direct, the reveal of the console could actually happen a little later than that.

Nintendo has not commented on anything regarding its new console yet and has not confirmed when the Switch successor will release.
