Rocket League is going to receive a pretty big update soon. In the update, there will be major changes to the ranked ladder, as well as some new esports-themed cosmetics.

It never gets boring with new updates in Rocket League, and this one is going to tackle an issue that has been ever prevalent – smurfs. So what is Psyonix' big plan?

In 2020, Rocket League became free to play for all. To encourage friends to play together, the minimum level for competitive was lowered. Throughout the last few years though, Psyonix has worked on improving casual gameplay as well, and now they feel ready to make some big ranked changes.

In the upcoming update, the minimum level requirement will go up from level 10 to level 20. This is done to try and stop smurfs from ruining the competitive integrity.

Competitive Minimum Level Requirement will be raised from Level 10 to Level 20, and now every player in a Party will need to be Level 20 or higher in order to queue for the Competitive Playlist. These changes are some of several gameplay improvements we are working on this year to minimize behavior that can lead to unfair matches.

In a blog post, Psyonix stated that this will keep ranked competitive and fair. Now players are less likely to make new accounts just to smurf on lower ranked players, at least that is one of the goals.

There is also going to be an update for the esports shop, with new team gear for the 2024 RLCS season as well. 2024 is going to be a big year for Rocket League with multiple changes planned, like a tweak to the Arcade Playlist, as well as the introduction of new features and tweaks to the game.
