The Future Is Backwards: Nintendo Switch 2 Is Rumoured To Be Backward Compatible

There are more and more rumors and leaks trickling down the grapevine about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. One prominent leaker has revealed key information about the games you can play.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is supposedly coming in 2024. There has been no date revealed yet, but with more and more information leaking, it seems like the release of the Switch 2 is imminent.

While there have been rumors about the Switch 2's specs, nowmore information seems to have been revealed regarding the games you can enjoy on the new Nintendo console as well.

Nintendo Switch 2 Could Let You Play Your Old Games

A new Nintendo Direct is rumored to take place within the next week or so, where fans will be able to get their first announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2. Thanks to PH Brazil on the X do Controle podcast, there are also rumors about the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2.

According to them, the Nintendo Switch 2 will also feature Backward Compatibility. It is also rumored that the console will be able to feature both physical (cartridge) and digital backward compatibility.

This doesn't seem to only be for players, though, with developers also getting the chance to make improvements for games already in the Nintendo Switch library. This means older games will definitely have the chance to be enhanced thanks to the improved hardware of the Nintendo Switch 2.

According to PH Brazil, Nintendo will hold a hardware reveal in March 2024, where players will get all the details about the Nintendo Switch 2, so the upcoming Nintendo Direct will likely just be a small teaser for this much bigger event. Though there are leaks that the February, Nintendo Direct will focus on the Pokémon franchise.

Of course, everything is still just rumors, but with how much information about the Nintendo Switch 2 players have been fed in recent weeks, it's about time Nintendo reveals the upcoming console and all the power ups from the OG Switch. Backwards compatibility is just going to be one feature of many.
