LoL Fan Reveals Abysmal Record Of LEC & LCS Teams Against Eastern Teams

The LEC and LCS are out of World Championship contention after the quick 3-0 loss of NRG to WBG in Busan, South Korea. Now, one League of Legends fan has revealed just how bad the West's record has been against LPL and LCK teams in 2023.

The fact that the Eastern League of Legends teams seem to have an edge over the West is nothing new. The last time a Western team won worlds was all the way back in 2011 when Fnatic took home the title of 'World Champions' at the first ever World Championship.

Since then, it's been Eastern League of Legends teams that have dominated international events, with a glimpse of hope from G2 Esports in 2019. But since then, things seem to have only gone downhill for LCS and LEC teams on the international stage and 2023 seems to be another extreme low.

It's nothing new to shit on the LEC and LCS when it comes to international play, right? Well, it seems that while the West did have a few glimmers of hope, especially in 2018 and 2019 when Fnatic and G2 made it to Worlds finals, those moments of glory have long been forgotten.

A Reddit user showed off just how bad the Western teams have been in recent years, with both in 2022 and 2023 the win rate at international events between Western (LEC and LCS) teams against Eastern (LPL and LCK) teams being no higher than 15%.

"Fun"-fact: In 2022-23, LEC and LCS winrate against LCK & LPL is only 15% - the worst than ever

He explained that in 2023 there were 45 games between Western and Eastern teams, with the West only winning 7 games in total. This includes both Worlds 2023 and the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational – no data from G2's scrim results here.

They also mentioned that from the 7 best-of-5 and 6 best-of-3 series not a single one was won by an LEC or LCS team this year against their Eastern counterparts. G2, C9 and Fnatic all fell to the Eastern giants throughout the year.

It seems that most Western LoL fans have started to give up hope, many stating that most of the wins against Eastern teams come from a single team, G2, and that the way LPL and LCK squads use objectives like Baron, is much smarter and better than the teams in the West.

So, will we ever get a World Champion from another region? In 2023, we won't but maybe there is hope for 2024?
